5th Ave. Apt

The full renovation of this 2,200 sq.ft. apartment started simply as a bathroom upgrade. At each meeting however, we found that the client wanted to discuss some other part of the apartment. “Do you think this could be a bit better if..?” It wasn’t too long before we all realized their apartment, as it was, wasn’t working for them anymore. Their kids were all grown up and had moved out. Their lives were changing and they needed an apartment that better fit their new lifestyle.

The client’s passions; one a photographer, the other a music & book lover, defined the design’s priorities. Our focus was to provide opportunities where they can celebrate and display their beloved collections.

Our design philosophy can be seen throughout the apartment, from the subtle color-shifting blue Venetian plaster walls that change with varying daylight, the high gloss ceiling reflects views downtown & Central Park, or the gold leaf accentuating the warmth of the den’s interior.

The apartment is an ever-changing experiential play of material qualities under changing light.
